"President George W. Bush met with other world
leaders at the G8 summit to discuss climate
change. "Goodbye," he said as he left, grinning and
punching the air, "from the world's biggest polluter."
That from the guy who just re-opened some protected areas to offshore drilling. Really shows the priorities of our U.S. leaders. (Disclaimer: I drive my car most of the time and I often use plastic bags, and I just bought a HUGE propane burner to use for beer brewing... so I am not exactly innocent (as if there were guilt involved) nor an extremist. It just frustrates me that we are led by such irreverent people.)

We now have a garden and have been eating the fresh veggies from it. We are composting the horse excrement as well as a separate composting bin for food scraps.
We try not to get plastic bags at the store (but usually forget out cloth bags, should probably leave them in the car). Try to limit driving by sharing rides and me riding my bike half the distance. We recycle 90% of our trash now as it's free for us to take recycling and it costs us to take our trash to the dump (no curb service in the sticks).
With all that it sounds like we've turned into extremists, but in all honesty it's really little effort and easier/cheaper than toting garbage bags.
Yet we still seem to produce way too much waste, spend too much on gas, and use too much energy: fans, dehumidifiers, radio (no tv), computers, etc...
It seems for every step we make to try to live greener and easier on Mother Nature, I look over and see another me taking a step deeper into dependence... maddening really.
