So it looks like we are finally getting a reprieve from the mid-Tennessee heat. Mid-afternoon and it is only 75 degrees here in Nashville; partly due, I presume, from some rain that has been falling here off and on all day. Also much needed.
Saturday night and then again last night we played some bike polo out at the bike polo grounds in Shelby Park on the east side. Good times. Last night was less abusive on myself as I sustained far fewer bruises than on Saturday. I di, however, catch a mallet to the face last night as well as one to the ankle. Neither occasion found the mallet in the act of swinging for the ball, so it could easily have been much worse. As it is, just a couple bruises. After Saturday's marathon session of polo, though, I was beat up pretty badly. I still have bruises everywhere from that day. Reminds me of the movie fight club, actually. In a masochistic sort of way, injuries from so much fun and physical output really make one feel alive. Unfortunately, last night we had our first injury worthy of professional medical care. Jerry, a first-timer from Murfreesboro, was not near the ball or other riders when he cut a turn too tightly and went down, causing a flesh wound below his knee that would require stitches. In true warrior fashion, we stopped to chat for a minute when we realized the extent of the injury, but then kept on playing for another 90 minutes or so, but with one less player.
There is alot of talk about a trip to the Chilhowee this weekend. Not sure I am going to make it, but we'll see. I am leaning towards hanging around Nashville and working on some personal improvement stuff. I'm not talking about the "7 habits of highly successful people" or any crap like that. I mean picking up some additional marketable skills for my career. Some web development technologies and such. Who knows, though? I may end up camping anyway. Hard to deny one's self a weekend at the Chilhowee. Especially if the weather looks to be pleasant.
