40+ hours per week

So, I brought a camera in to work today to show the world (both of you) what my daily surroundings look like a little more. I work for Zoi Interactive Technologies, and my title is QA Manager. I am also listed as a developer on the list of company human assets. My workspace is like a cube, sort of, except much more open, the walls are fixed, and I have two big windows in my space. My bike resides in my "office" with me while I am here at work.

This first pic is of my primary workspace. I just moved into this space a couple days ago. My primary work machine is all the way to the right with the secondary monitor being in the middle. The left-most monitor is connected to a box under the desk and runs my virtual machines for testing.

This next pic is the view from my primary desk if I turn around. That is my bike parking and then also a dedicated Vista testing box.

The last image is of the "pit" that I have told some people about. It used to be that about everyone worked in the pit, which has space for 16 people. We have been moved to more solitary workspaces in the last few days to promote increased productivity. The idea behind the pit was good in that it promoted communication and such, and personally I enjoyed working around everyone. The problem, however, was that there was a lot of building noise (A/C, water running through pipes, etc.) in the room and that made it difficult to hear each other without shouting. So the advantages of the setup were lost. That and some people were too easily distracted and others too willing to distract.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my workplace.
Have a good weekend.
